Opera

Built in 1885, on the approval of Charles Garnier, the Opera in Nice is, in its conception, the last Italian-style theatre. The influence of the Opera in Nice is national : it ranks first of the thirteen theatres of the Association "Reunion of the Lyrical Theatres of France".

This national acknowledgement is motivated by the quality of the events, by the technical possibilities given by the grand Auditorium of the Acropolis - size of the stage, acoustics - and by the beauty of the Opera-House theatre. Each season, a hundred or so performances are held. In order to satisfy the public of Nice, the opera-lovers, this year will stress on the Italian operas.

The corps de ballet at the Opera in Nice has been reinforced and has enlarged its repertoire so as to meet the requirements of the performances and the demands of the dance-lovers. The Philharmonic Orchestra of Nice, with its 120 musicians, has been judged as one of the best of the provinces : it has made several recordings.

Furthermore, the Opera in of Nice is welcoming invited ballet companies, baroque music ensembles, conductors and initiates national and international tours in order to share and enrich its artistic sensibility in the contact of other publics.

The will is to vary the programming by staging contemporary or ancient works which are unjustly let on the side, and by opening the theatre to other productions.
